This vibrant Arts and Crafts bungalow, built by Gristmill Builders in the North Hill neighborhood of Stowe, is owned by Bob and Heather Anderson. “We might as well just put our beds in the kitchen”, says Bob, a business consultant and public speaker. “The kitchen is where we eat, entertain, create, do projects, and have family meetings. Its the center of our home.” The stainless-steel appliances work well with the salvaged glass and abundant wood. “We're wood people,” agrees Anderson. “Wood floors, wood walls, and big windows to let in the light: That's what we're about.”

"We try to create an emotional experience that goes beyond shelter." says Brendan O'Reilly, owner of Gristmill Builders. "In this house, the owners live in a novel that unfolds around every corner. The sliding door reminds you of a small country store; the laundry-chute door comes from an old coal-boiler; the huge hemlock timbers are from a mill in northern Vermont. These things create emotion, they tell a story, and that's what I like to do."
